An Agency and Stevedoring operation was established in Whitby. He was a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London, and National President in 1958. A controlling interest in Atkinson & Prickett Ltd., was acquired in 1957 but the Holderness steamship Company ceased trading in 1963.

Stevedores (Goole) Ltd. was sold to the Port Authority but ten years later a return was made to stevedoring as shareholders in Boothferry Port Services Ltd., Goole. Operations in Whitby were sold in 1980. In 1979/80, Northern Motorway Warehousing commenced operations in Ossett from newly built premises.

With Belgian partners, Belantra Shipping Co. Ltd., operated and owned by Time Chartered vessels between Belgium and ECUK carrying large quantities of steel products. Tony and Jerry are respectively Member and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Jerry succeeded to the Netherlands, French and Danish Consular appointments in Goole and Tony was appointed Netherlands Consul in Hull in 1974 and Danish Consul in 1994. Tony and Jerry have been honoured as "Chevaliers of the Order of Oranje Nassau" and Jerry as "Knight of the Order of the Danneborg".




Achieved Economics and Business degrees at University before working in London for about 10 years in different fields of international commerce. Richard manages the Kettlewell Steel Terminal at Goole whilst Steve is responsible for the Company's operations at Hull and Immingham.


A wholly owned stevedoring operation, Northern Labour Contractors, has been established and the activities of Atkinson & Prickett Ltd. have been merged into Thos. E. Kettlewell & Son Ltd. as trading division Atkinson & Prickett. Kettlewell have become a company member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.
